RIOgaleão Cargo

Privatised in 2014 and guided by its majority shareholder, Changi Airports International, RIOgaleão, Rio de Janeiro’s international airport, has delivered an ambitious R$2 billion investment and operational improvement programme over the past years.

The airport is one of the main gateways to Brazil and Latin America, providing quality import and export services to the pharmaceutical and automotive and aerospace industries, the medical and technology sectors, and, by natural vocation, to Brazil’s oil & gas industry, amongst others.
Imports alone are valued at USD 10 billion annually (CIF 2023).

The RIOgaleão Cargo terminal is located just 20km from Rio de Janeiro’s city centre and only 17km from the port. Connected to the regional and national road networks, it links the Southeast, South and Northeast of Brazil with the country’s major import and export markets.

Catchment Area

The RIOgaleão Cargo terminal lies at the heart of the “pre-sal” oil exploration area and is Brazil’s primary airfreight hub for the import and export of oil & gas equipment.

The centre of automotive manufacturing in the Vale do Paraíba (RJ) and the large pharmaceutical industries of Jacarepaguá (RJ) and São Paulo (SP) are within a short trucking distance from the airport and as are Rio de Janeiro’s aerospace industries.

The airport’s strategic location enables fast transfers to the neighbouring states of São Paulo (SP), Espírito Santo (ES), Minas Gerais (MG), Santa Catarina (SC) and Goiania (GO).

Eficiency & Performance

RIOgaleão Cargo’s focus on operational efficiency led to a 58% reduction in the average cargo dwell time since the privatization of the airport in 2014.

The airport’s Logistics Eﬃciency Program (PEL) involves all stakeholders in the logistics chain, enabling our clients to identify bottlenecks and improve their clearing process resulting in signiﬁ cant time and cost savings.
